Content Management Systems
Synapse Multimedia CMS
At the beginning of March 2011, KOMU switched content managers for our website. We now use Synapse Multimedia CMS. Some of the new features allow us to post stories on the main page, embed graphics and photo slideshows, and edit video directly in the website. This program also lets us interact with our viewers because they can comment on our stories.
I post stories and add additional content to the stories. For example, I create a still image from the reporter's video memory card to accompany their online story. Another example is the time the Sheriff's Department sent us nine mugshots from one operation. Instead of posting only one photo, I created a Flickr mugshot slideshow and added it to the story. This offered the reader an interactive feature to engage them in the story. |
Avid Active Content Manager
Cotweet and Facebook
I use Cotweet and Facebook to interact with our viewers online. Our reporters tweet on Twitter while in the field and I publish their tweets on the @KOMUnews account from the Cotweet program. When we have a story on our website with the potential to create a conversation with our viewers, I post it on Facebook and monitor the comments as followers grow in number. Our efforts with social media, like Twitter and Facebook, have positively impacted our interaction with viewers.
