Severe Weather Newscasts
Devine & Natalia Tornado Newscast
|
The night before this show, tornadoes rolled into South Texas; three touched down in the small towns of Devine and Natalia. I had three reporters and found a different way of introducing each story (chopper video, viewer photos, data I searched out and analyzed). I also wrapped up coverage with a history of this weather pattern in our viewing area in the last six months and a pitch to our web site.
I won the best Evening Newscast (medium market) Award at the 2012 Lone Star Emmy Awards with this newscast. |
Flooding Threat Newscast
|
In San Antonio, when it rains, it floods. I opened this newscast with a great viewer video of a funnel cloud before moving into the rain and flooding coverage. I found a tidbit to put between each reporter story that made them all flow together.

Tornadoes, flooding & fires, oh my!
|
A severe storm rolled through our area and the state. Tornadoes, flooding and fires happened in almost every major Texas city. My reporter covered a tornado that hit in San Antonio. I wrote an anchor package to extend my damage coverage to show how the entire state was affected.
The end of this weather segment is meant to end on a fullscreen promoting our iPad app, but the computer locked up so it turned into the anchor reading it on camera. |
