Social Media
#SMC Mid-MO
My senior capstone project at the University of Missouri is to develop mid-Missouri's Social Media Club (#SMC) which started in January 2011. In May, I will host a geolocation location camp which will teach local business owners how to use social media outlets like Foursquare, Gowalla, and Facebook Places and Deals. I am publicizing SMC locally, so businesses can connect with their customers in a new way.

Twitter Program at KYTX (CBS-19)
I interned and assistant produced the summer of 2008 at KYTX (CBS-19) in Tyler, TX. I recognized both the need and lack of tools for quick, succinct communication among reporters, the assignments desk, the producers and the news anchors and suggested the team use Twitter, an emerging social networking tool. After delivering impromptu “Twitter-torials,” the team began “tweeting” to communicate with one another and provide viewers with real-time previews. This encouraged the station’s viewers to watch the newscast to learn the “rest of the story.” Using Twitter is still an integral part of CBS-19’s communications and marketing toolboxes.

KOMU Winter Olympics
After the Blizzard of 2011, some of our anchors went to the morning executive producer's house to test out the luge he created on his front lawn. An anchor made it one of her franchise packages for "Sarah's Stories." The competition has become know as KOMU Winter Olympics. I took the clips of each anchor's run and posted them online to vimeo.com, a video uploading website that allows users to easily embed the video on other sites. The videos were then posted on KOMU's website and viewers were allowed decide which anchor had the best luge run. This engaged the viewers with us and our website while allowing them to help the community at the same time.
